Can Tradelines Remove Collections, Late Payments or Charge-Offs?

No. Adding an authorized user tradeline does not remove a collection, erase a late payment or delete a charge-off from another account. Those negative items are separate pieces of data furnished by different creditors or collectors.

A positive AU account can change the overall profile, but it does not rewrite the history of another account.

Why the confusion happens

Sometimes a score changes after a positive account is added, so people describe the tradeline as if it “fixed” the negative. The negative item may still be sitting on the report exactly where it was before.

Collections need their own strategy

If a collection is inaccurate, duplicate, too old to report or otherwise factually wrong, address that issue directly. If it is valid, the available options depend on the collector, balance, state law and your goals. A tradeline is not a substitute for that process.

Late payments need their own strategy

An AU account with perfect payment history does not change a 30-day late on your auto loan to “never late.” Accurate payment history generally remains unless the furnisher corrects it or the reporting period ends.

Charge-offs need their own strategy

A charge-off can affect approval decisions even if you add several positive accounts. Lenders can look beyond the score and see the derogatory history. Treat it as a separate problem.

Where a tradeline can still fit

After negative issues are understood, an AU account may still add depth, age or reported capacity. Just do not spend money expecting it to perform a deletion function it was never designed to perform.

If you want to see whether a tradeline is actually relevant after your negatives are considered, use Tradeline Match.

A quick reality check

Tradelines are one part of a credit profile, not a guaranteed score increase or approval shortcut. Results depend on what actually reports, the rest of the credit file, the scoring model used and the lender reviewing the application. Primary accounts, low balances and on-time payments still matter.
