Which Banks Report Authorized Users to the Credit Bureaus?

Most major credit-card issuers have systems for reporting authorized users, but “this bank reports” is not the same as “every product will appear on every bureau for every authorized user without exception.”

Current issuer information and identity matching matter, so treat any bank list as a starting point rather than a lifetime guarantee.

Major issuers commonly associated with AU reporting

  • American Express

  • Bank of America

  • Capital One

  • Chase

  • Citi

  • Discover

  • U.S. Bank

  • Wells Fargo

What issuers themselves say

Discover currently states that it reports account credit history for the primary holder and authorized user to the three major bureaus. Chase explains that banks and issuers often report card payment history that includes individual card users. Capital One notes that AU credit building depends on whether the account appears on the authorized user’s credit reports.

Those statements support the general concept, but product rules and systems can change.

Why an authorized user might not appear

  • The issuer does not have enough identifying information to match the person.

  • The account is still inside its first reporting cycle after the user was added.

  • A bureau has not updated yet.

  • The specific product or account is handled differently.

  • The authorized user was removed before the reporting cycle completed.

Sensitive information belongs in legitimate channels

Some issuers request a Social Security number, date of birth and address for an authorized user; others can initially add a user with less information. Complete identity data can help match the account to the right file, but sensitive information should only be provided through legitimate channels.

A quick reality check

Tradelines are one part of a credit profile, not a guaranteed score increase or approval shortcut. Results depend on what actually reports, the rest of the credit file, the scoring model used and the lender reviewing the application. Primary accounts, low balances and on-time payments still matter.
